The Botox Empire That Doesn't Sell Botox
Why does a stock filed under Botox trade at 8x sales, nearly twice L'Oréal's multiple? Galderma has been labelled the Swiss Botox empire, the share that rides the cult of the frozen forehead. One problem: Botox belongs to AbbVie. Galderma sells the rival, Dysport, and the rival is not why a share floated at CHF53 in March 2024 now trades around CHF160.
The money is in itching. At the end of September, in Vienna, Galderma showed Europe's dermatologists three years of data on Nemluvio, its eczema drug. Nobody filmed that for TikTok. Nemluvio sold $433M in the first half, against $131M a year earlier, and management sees peak sales above $4B for a company that will sell over $6B this year. Injectables still bring in 46% of revenue, growing 12.1%. The syringe pays the bills. The itch pays the multiple.
L'Oréal, which sells beauty, handed its half to Nestlé in 2014 for €3.1B. Nestlé, which sells food, sold the whole skin business in 2019 for CHF10.2B, as non-core. Last December, L'Oréal agreed to pay about CHF3.9B at market price for a second tenth. Sell low, buy back high. Sculptra, Galderma's collagen stimulator, won US approval in 2004 to rebuild faces hollowed by HIV. It now refills cheeks emptied by weight-loss jabs. Medicine has a sense of humour.
EQT, a Swedish buyout fund with Abu Dhabi and Singapore money, bought it as a pure dermatology company and floated it on the SIX Swiss Exchange in Zurich at CHF12.6B, Europe's largest IPO since Porsche. London, meanwhile, was watching Arm and CRH choose Wall Street. The company now weighs CHF37.4B. Its holding has sat in Zug, a small canton south of Zurich, since 2014. The register above it is a palimpsest: Nestlé, a Swedish fund, the stock market with L'Oréal back aboard. The Zug seat is the one line nobody scraped off.
Galderma makes nothing in Switzerland. Its fillers ship from Uppsala, its Cetaphil from Quebec. Bern, the federal government, spent 2025 talking Washington's 39% down to 15% for watchmakers who do export from Swiss soil. Galderma's own bill came back as a refund once the Supreme Court struck down the emergency tariffs. In April, French investigators raided Galderma France over toxin allegedly sold to GPs not licensed to inject it, weeks after a woman near Lyon died from an illegal injection of smuggled product. The inquiry may find something. The fake injectors booking clients on Instagram were not in its offices.
Markets misprice what they misfile. Nestlé filed Galderma under clutter, L'Oréal under beauty, Washington under freight, Paris under suspicion. Bern filed it under nothing at all: no national champion strategy, no golden share, one registered office through three owners. Capital settles where the address outlasts the owners. And that's the point.

Everyone has the smart ring story backwards. The theory runs like this: Oura and its imitators push the Apple Watch off the wrist, and the vacated real estate goes back to Cartier and Rolex. Charming.
